Blood Drive for One of Our OWN!

Keowee Blood Drive
Keowee is hosting a blood drive to help one of our very own! Tammy Garland has been a  fifth grade teacher at Keowee for 14 years. As you all know, at Keowee, we are family and when a family member needs help, we ALL pitch in! Mrs. Garland needs our help. Her husband David has a rare unknown auto-immune disease that was diagnosed when he was five years old. Over the past 22 years he has had to have life saving emergency surgery, chemotherapy, rounds of very strong steroids and LOTS and LOTS of blood. Currently, David is battling Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) which is a disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding results from unusually low levels of platelets — the cells that help blood clot -- hemolytic anemia which attacks the red blood cells and neutropenia which attacks the white blood cells.

We will be sending home sheets for parents to sign up for times.  Please return them to your student’s homeroom teacher.  The class with the most participation will receive a pizza party.  We hope you will join us here at Keowee Elementary School to donate life saving blood on Nov. 20th from 11:00 - 4:00.  Thank you for helping one of our own!
